Sprain (Ligament)
A sprain refers to tearing or stretching of a ligament. Ligaments are the tough bands of fibrous tissue which connect one bone to another helping stabilize a joint. A sprained ankle is a common example. The ligament injury can consist of minimal tearing or stretching to complete tearing where the ligament is no longer attached to the bone. Common symptoms include pain, swelling, bruising, stiffness, and tenderness.
Don't Delay Scheduling Treatment
A sprain needs prompt treatment to restore function of the affected joint. Treatment and recovery time varies of the extent of the injury. Surgery may be required and you will need an experienced surgeon. Don't hesitate and see the Wisconsin Work Injury Doctor.
A ligament sprain is the equivalent to a muscle strain. A muscle strain is when you stretch or tear a tendon or muscle.
