Patellar (Kneecap) Tendon
The patellar tendon connects from the kneecap (patella) to the shin bone (tibia). It works with the quadriceps muscles in front of the thigh in order for you to straighten your leg. A patellar tendon injury can occur from overload or overuse. It can happen to people of any age and those at highest risk commonly participate in sports or other activities that involve running and jumping
Patellar Tendon Injury Doctor
A common patellar tendon injury is called patellar tendinitis or jumper's knee. This is inflammation of the patellar tendon resulting in pain and other symptoms that can be disabling. If tearing of the patellar tendon occurs, then surgery is often required. Tears can range from a small portion of the tendon to complete tearing of the patellar tendon. Tearing usually occurs where the patellar tendon connects to the bottom of the kneecap. If this occurs you will be unable to straighten your leg and immediate attention from an orthopaedic surgeon is necessary.
